It means the pharmacist has to make sure his/her training and education are up to date, that the CVS training has the latest information, and that the customer wants the same thing from the pharmacy.
CVS says it isn’t a startup, that it is part of the CVS family. What it means is that the pharmacy techs have to be in the family too. They have to stay relevant and keep the company afloat. That’s been the goal even though they’ve only been around for a few years. CVS has about 800 full-time pharmacy techs, and the average age is 42.
I think that CVS is just a model for how not to get into it. Theyve got a bunch of very inexperienced people in it that have no idea what they’re doing, they’re not good at taking responsibility, they don’t have a good enough grasp on what they’re doing. I think they are a small, very inefficient and under-resourced company with a lot of problems.
The whole pharmacist thing is just one thing that CVS does poorly. I think that the company is pretty much the same for most of the things that they do well. For example, they are very much the same way in online retail as they are in retail pharmacy. They have a very strong online presence, but they have no offline presence. They have no bricks and mortar retail presence.
