Who doesn’t like a pet hamster? So does my wife, who is the most animal-loving person I know. She’s also the most responsible person I know. But she isn’t the most responsible person.
Because pets are animals and animals are people, I’m pretty sure she would not care about taking care of a pet hamster. But that doesn’t stop her from thinking about it. And that’s why I’ve been trying to convince her to give it a go. Because now that we’ve got a pet hamster, I think she’ll finally understand that it’s not just a hobby.
I could not agree more. As long as you are a responsible person, you are not a pet hamster. But you might want to think about keeping a pet hamster.
I’m just saying.
I know that Im more than a little biased since Ive been buying pets for as long as Ive been a member here. But I have to agree. It’s pretty hard for me to imagine that this little guy is anything more than a glorified pet hamster.
I think this is another case of pet hamsters being used in a very specific way. You can train this hamster to do a whole lot of things, but what does that mean exactly? Pet hamsters are not a part of “rewarding” hamsters. They are not some sort of training that you do to boost their ability to get food and water. They are pets. They are not trained to do anything.
I don’t think it’s a matter of training. I think there is a clear difference between what a dog is trained to do and what a hamster is trained to do. I don’t think that a hamster can be trained to be a dog, but I think that a pet hamster can.
I’m not sure you can have a pet hamster that doesn’t have some sort of special knowledge of how to feed themselves, like being able to see the world through their eyes and comprehend it. Or that they can see and understand the world through their ears. Or that they can understand their owner’s thoughts. Or that they can be trained to show their owners how things are.
I dont think any pets can be trained to do anything like that. A hamster is a very simple animal, but you can’t train a hamster to be a dog. A hamster can’t be a dog. Even a hamster that was trained to be a dog has some sort of special knowledge about how to treat their owners they must have somehow learned that from their owners parents.
