I spent a year working for an IT support company. Every time I was in the office, there would be an issue with a user’s computer or device. I never spent a single minute working on my own. I was there to help.
Tech support is probably the most boring job in the world. Yes, they are the ones who talk to you, and yes, there is a lot of pressure to fix the problem if it hasn’t been addressed. But the thing is, they don’t really care about your problems or your problems. They are there to help. They are there as a friend. They are there to help you get through your day and stay sane.
I think it is the most important job that most of the people you know in your life think they are going to be doing. They are the ones you dont ever imagine that you will be talking to while you are working your job. That is a huge perk to having a job that you have no idea what to do with. Most of your day you are constantly on autopilot. You are in this job because you want to be and because that is what you do for a living.
A lot of people do not realize this until they are in such a situation it is too late.
This is where tech support comes in. That is the job that you are always on autopilot because you are just looking for the best solution. You have no idea how much time you actually spend on that job because the only time you think you are actually doing work is when you get asked to come to tech support. And even though you might think you are doing work, it is just a matter of perspective on life that you are not doing work.
The thing is, not all tech support is like that. The people that you want to see are the people that are actually working, because most tech support is for people that are looking for answers and not actually doing work.
There are two types, one being “technical” and the other being “non-technical.” The technical is the stuff you do as a part of your job, the non-technical is the stuff you do off the clock. So you may have a technical job, but one day you get home and you realize you are a non-technical person. You are just a normal guy who happens to be a part of a team working on your computer or phone.
The non-technical are the people that are in the office. The most common ones are the ones that are in engineering and sales and are the ones that have to deal with the customers when they’re not working. They may not be as tech-savvy as the engineers though, and they may not even know how to fix their own computers.
And then there are the tech-savvy ones who can talk to a customer and figure out why they cant use their own computer. Thats what i think of when i see people that are from tech support or sales. They know how to fix computers and they are the ones that are really in charge of the sales and the customer.
Tech support is the one place where the customer actually feels that the sales/salesperson is in charge. That is just their job to make sure they don’t have any issues. But the salesperson knows that the customer is not a normal customer. And that is why when the customer calls a tech support, he/she is really asking to fix their issue.
