In 2014, I was looking for a way to entertain myself and my friends while on the road. I searched for apps that would allow me to make my own “techno candy”. It was the only way I could stop and think about the things that I was doing.
Technology Candy is a free app that lets you make your own sugar-splashed sweets. I like it because it allows me to share my food with others and it keeps me focused on my goals. It also keeps me from having to think about the things that I might be doing while on the road. It’s nice to be reminded that technology can be an opportunity, not a crutch.
The other great thing about technology candy is that it keeps your phone on a 24-hour-a-day diet. You can have your phone set up to do a bunch of tech things at once (check Facebook, check email, check the weather, check your phone calendar, and so on).
My phone, iPad, and other gadgets all allow me to forget that I’m not running a big company, that I’m on a road trip, or that I’m doing everything on my phone. That leaves me free to focus on the small things that might be more important. I can text a friend, I can write a message, I can take a picture, I can answer a call, and so on.
Technology allows you to get a lot of things done on the fly. So it makes sense that we should use technology everywhere we go, but it also makes a lot of sense that a lot of those things are also things that we’re in charge of doing. For example, I’ve been using my phone less and less over the last few years. I’ve lost my cell phone many times.
Technology also allows us to do something we don’t do anymore. We use technology to perform a task that was once performed by another person. We use technology to store information that would have been impossible to store before. We use technology to get things done. We use technology to have fun.
Technology is one of my favorite subjects to talk about. It’s so fascinating to me that we are able to move information from the physical world to the digital world in such a relatively short time. I know I’ve said it before but it’s a lesson I’ve never forgotten. It’s a lesson I’ve also learned to apply to all of our other daily habits. Technology allows us to be more productive.
Technology does a lot more than just move information around. It allows us to be a lot more productive. It allows us to work more efficiently. It allows us to make the most of the time we have in the day. It allows us to take pleasure in our work. It allows us to achieve goals that we may not have even thought of. It allows us to take the time to do things we may not otherwise have the time for.
One of the biggest problems facing people today is getting too busy to do anything productive. A lot of the time I think we just assume that we will be too busy to be productive, but in reality, we don’t even have the time to do things we may not want to do, or even think about doing. Technology may not give us the time we need to do those things, but it allows us to accomplish things that we once thought were impossible.
A couple of years back I was part of a huge effort to get a couple hundred people to donate tons of money to a certain charity. We had a great time, and the charity raised over $300,000. But then we went to the airport and I realized that I had no idea what I would do with all the money I had left to give. I was really frustrated. Then I started watching the news to see what I could do with all the money that I had.
