I’ve always liked the idea of “mcclain” as a shade, but as a color it’s a little hard to pull off. As a name, however, it’s a great one. The name is inspired in part by the legendary Scottish painter, John McCrae. McCrae was a Scottish writer, painter, and draughtsman who specialized in the use of color in his paintings.
The name reminds me of the painting of the same name by the great Scottish artist, John Muir. McCrae was an admirer of Muir’s color schemes and also liked the idea of the name being derived in part from the Scottish word for moor, meaning bog. McCrae was a keen student of Muir and is known to have created a number of Muir inspired color schemes in his paintings.
McCrae was considered by many to be one of the great artists of his time, and his work is as vibrant and as forward thinking as it is beautiful, with colors that stand for the purest of air.
McCrae often mixed the colors of the natural world with the colors of nature, like in this watercolor McCrae did of a lake in the Scottish Highlands. It’s really beautiful and like the one in this story trailer, it has the same kind of feel that a Muir painting would have.
I never knew a man could paint a picture of a lake like that.
