Sometimes choosing a pet is hard to do. Especially if you are a kid and have been in that position, but with a little bit of help and some guidance from a trusted adult or parent, you can make a pretty decent, if not perfect, decision on your first time.
I was fortunate enough to be around kids growing up who were very open to the idea of pet ownership, and I was able to do so with my dog. He was my constant companion and the one who taught me what a pet is and how it can be a part of my life. After a while, I realized that the best way to make sure that I continue having a consistent, loving, and safe pet is to find a good, loving dog and keep him or her around.
I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty lucky. My favorite pet is my pitbull, who we named “choice pet.” I’m pretty sure I’m a little bit of a psychopath, too. I’ve also had cats and other animals in my life, but I’ve never been able to get along with them the way I do with little dogs.
I’ve had a hard enough time with my dogs, and I know what you’re going through. The best thing you can do to get through the tough times is to start treating your pets like the people they’ll become by taking care of them.
A pet is a great idea, but it is NOT a necessity if you want to be happy. If you want to be happy, you need to make your dog or cat happy. Otherwise, you will become a sad, sad, sad person.
I feel like Ive been saying this a lot, but you have to be able to treat your dog or cat like a person. That means you have to be able to let them go out and not worry about them being hurt or getting into anything. This means no hitting on your dog or cat or making them stay in the house. You have to be able to take them for walks, feed them, take them outside, etc. and not worry about them getting hurt or getting into anything.
I’m not sure when it all started to change, but the idea of pet ownership has changed in some way or another for me. It used to be that I’d have to pick a specific breed of dog or cat. Now I can pick a breed of any animal and I know that it’s not just a matter of choosing a nice fluffy little puppy.
I’m not sure why some people are so against pet ownership, but I guess it comes down to that the idea of ‘giving away your offspring’ is so ingrained in our culture that it’s almost impossible not to. People that are against it might say “But what are you going to do with your pet? It’s not like you’re going to be around to care for them.” but I disagree.
We all have a pet. Some of us have a pet we would rather die than let go. But we are not petless, and we deserve to have a pet.
The last thing I want to put you through is an endless stream of “What are you going to do with your pet?” questions. If I could, I would give you a pet name, and I would ask for a pet name that you wouldn’t be able to pronounce. But that is the most that I can do.
