The fact is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us through our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car.
The problem is when we’re on autopilot for so long that we forget we’re on autopilot. Because when we’re not even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them they control us.
The problem is when we’re on autopilot for so long that we forget we’re on autopilot. There is a saying that goes “the fool walks into the light, the light walks into the fool.” Well, that makes perfect sense to me.
When we’re on autopilot for so long, we feel that we are in a constant state of being nothing but the movements of our own minds, rather than the movements of our minds controlling us. To think that our minds control us, even if we know that they don’t, is a profound mistake. Your mind is your true teacher.
Our minds are really pretty much the same thing. Thats why we spend so much time trying to be something that we’re not. Its an illusion, but it’s an illusion that can really help you make better decisions and decisions that you feel that you want to make.
It’s true that your inner dialogue is your true teacher, and that your inner dialogues control you. But those dialogues can also be turned on you. They can be used to control us to create what we want to create. Our inner dialogue is a powerful driver, and for the most part it is not as strong as our outer dialogues. Our outer dialogues are the things that we say to ourselves. They are the things that we think.
If you are like me you know that you often feel you need to change how you feel. You often feel that you need to change your inner dialogue. But I also know that inner dialogue is only as powerful as your outer dialogue. You can change your outer dialogue, but you can’t change your inner dialogue.
The most effective way to change your inner dialogue is to challenge it. That’s why you hear it said that you should be “embracing the chaos.” But I say that embracing the chaos is only embracing what is chaos. You have to fight it so you can embrace what is life. You have to fight so you can embrace what is life.
Flopa, to change your inner dialogue, is a form of meditation. For many years I used to sit in silence in a room and just focus on my breath, which, when I did it for more than a few minutes, felt like I was breathing. As I sat there that way, I felt the tension go out of my chest and my breath slowed. I thought, “Ah, I’m breathing now.
This is one of those “I should be doing this anyway” moments that you can’t really stop yourself from doing even though you know you’re doing it. That’s why I love meditation. You can do it anywhere, and it doesn’t have to be a special spot. When I sit in a quiet room, I can hear my body breathing and I’m not doing it for the first time.
