Personally, I think that its the other way around. I think that people who graduate from college are all too happy to have a place to stay, and not so much happy to have a place to live. In general, the dorms are more common in the big cities, so they are more affordable for people who don’t live in a major city.

The city college is really only a handful of years out of school for most people, so having a place to live and buy a bed is now seen as a necessity. But I think the trend is for people to move away from dorms into apartment complexes. I remember living in a dorm and having to make a decision between living in a coed bed and a dorm.
The coed bed is good for privacy and is more expensive. The dorm is great for privacy, but it is more expensive. For the city college, though, the coed beds are a bit cheaper and the dorm is a bit more affordable.

There was no privacy, and the bed was in a walled courtyard. It was cold and the heat was really hot. You had to sleep in the hallway and walk past the coed dorm. Sometimes there was loud banging and sometimes it was quiet.
My dorm room still has the coed bed I had a few years ago, but now it’s just the regular old dorm room. The coed dorm was a bit more expensive, but the coeds moved in a day after I left. The coed dorm is actually a bit nicer than the coed bed though. The coeds now have shared bathrooms and are allowed to go to the bathroom in their room.
