The pet safety door guard can be a simple thing to fit and install, or it can be a more involved and costly project. There are two main options. The first is simple and economical, but often times it’s not the best choice. The second is the more involved method. Here are two tips to help you choose the right ones for your situation.
First, the door safety guards should be built to last. If you do the work yourself, make sure the screws are made properly to prevent them from going out of alignment. If they are, it will be a struggle to mount the door.
If you install them yourself, you’ll need to drill the holes in your door. The drill bit should be designed for a standard door, and you’ll need to drill through the thickness of your door, and into the door frame. After that, you’ll need to pull the door to the correct position.
The door safety guard is a relatively simple DIY project and should be pretty easy to accomplish. If you have a drill press, drill the holes you need, and you should be good to go. It will all depend, however, on the size of the door, and how much you want to go through it. You can always install the screws yourself, and give it a try.

The door safety guard is a DIY project, and I’ve seen many people go to the trouble to install it for their homes. But, with those kinds of projects, there is always the chance that you’ll break it. So, it’s a good idea to have it installed professionally if you can.
I should preface this review by talking about the design aspect of the pet safety door guard. The door guard is made of a stainless steel bar that can rotate up to 90 degrees. It has a locking device and a locking mechanism, and a latch. The latch is a simple piece of metal that you slide into the bar, and it has a spring-loaded pawl that engages when the latch is rotated. The pawl pushes the latch into the lock when the pawl is pulled up.
It looks good, but it’s a bit of a pain in the ass to keep it in position. You have to take the door guard apart, remove the latch, and reassemble it. Also, the pawls can be tricky to get to position once they’re in place. It’s a lot easier to just put a piece of wood under the latch, and that does help.
Pet door guards have a habit of popping off their moorings, and pet door guards do tend to have spring-loaded pawls that can fall off, so this is a bit of a hassle to keep in good shape. The other big issue is keeping the pawls in place. I bought two of these guards, and they were basically a whole lot of trouble to install.
The pawls are a little on the heavy side. That’s why I bought two, and then had to get a pawl for each piece of wood to get them in place. They’re also a lot of work, but that’s the price you pay for convenience.
