I have to be honest. I don’t think I’m a very good athlete. I don’t think I even have the stamina to try to be more than a mediocre runner. That being said, I’m not a bad runner either. I just don’t have the stamina.
In the latest issue of the Texas Tech magazine, the magazine’s editor, Tom Green, discusses the state of the Texas Tech track and field team. He writes, “There are so many good things to say about the Texas Tech track team, and the state of the team is one of them, but my main point is that the team is struggling. The lack of depth is hurting them in the long run.
The TexTech track team is trying to fix that. This year Texas Tech has moved on to varsity and is hoping to be a national contender. This is a result of a few things. Texas Tech has recently gone to a new weight class, added some top notch running and shooting recruits, and, well, maybe the lack of depth is part of it. The team is also still not recruiting enough to have a serious look at the talent that is on the roster.
Another part of that is a move to a new weight class and a new recruiting class for them to look at. Texas Tech is trying to go from one freshman or sophomore to three sophomores. That’s all well and good, but the new weight class and recruiting class is giving them trouble.
Texas Tech is trying to create an environment where their freshmen and sophomores get to know each other better, but, in the end, it’s not working out. The recruits have to know each other’s names and what they do. They have to communicate with each other. Texas Tech is trying to build an environment where recruits can feel comfortable about being a part of the team. It’s tough to do, even with all the recruiting and weight class changes.
The recruits need to feel comfortable, which means they need to feel that they are part of the team. Being part of a team, in turn, means that they have to become part of each other. As the leader of the team, Texan must ensure that the team knows what to do, and not to do. He must also ensure that the team can communicate with each other. As leader, Texan has to make sure we can get along, all of us, working together.
