Doctors and technicians work together, but not as a team, at a hospital or clinic. Instead, they work on their own and are considered “independent contractors” as they are not paid a salary for their work. However, they are often allowed to do a variety of work and are paid overtime to work more hours.
It’s difficult to define the extent to which tech physicians are self-employed, but they are. The self-employed can be either part-time or full-time, and they most often work for a clinic or medical center. In some cases, they are also allowed to use their own equipment or facilities.
